Trike stability – Often people will select a tricycle because they feel unstable on two wheels but tricycles ride differently to a bicycle and can be unstable when turning sharply at speed or riding over uneven surfaces so always traverse kerb ramps straight on and slow down when turning. For people with balance or mobility issues then a trike can be a good choice but if confidence or rusty riding skills are the issue, then you may like to consider an Electra Townie with flat foot technology, combined with a few riding tips from our friendly staff.

Size 20″,24″ & 26″ refers to the wheel diameter.  The manufacter recommends the 20″ version for riders up to 5’2″ (<157cm), 24″ for riders 5’2″ to 5’10” (157-177cm) and 26″ for riders 5’8″ (>170cm) however our customers of small to average height are often comfortable on the 20″ version as it minimises the overall size and weight of the trike and lowers the centre of gravity for better stability.

Gears The internal hub gears on the 3 speed trikes can be shifted whilst stationery allowing the rider to select a lower gear after stopping to gain more power when taking off.

Tyres As trikes are large and difficult to transport, many of customers choose to improve the puncture resistance of their tyres by either adding sealant or, for best performance, upgrading to Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres with 7 out of 7 puncture resistance.
