The complete bike spec from Surly is based around a steel frame and fork with long, low and stable geometry for predictable handling under load. Even with all the modern alternatives that are available, steel remains an excellent material for making bicycle frames. It’s an excellent balance of strength and weight, while providing comfortable and forgiving riding characteristics and looking pleasingly classic. Surly are steel frame specialists and sweat over every detail of every frame in every size, to make sure the bikes they create are useful, versatile and durable.

Disc brakes add modern braking performance. The 3 x 10 derailleur drive train gives you the wide range and ultra low ratios that a fully-loaded touring bike requires, teamed with bar-end shifters for simple and reliable gear changes. Road style drop bars and brake levers offer a wide variety of hand positions, allowing you to move around the bars during long days in the saddle to stay comfortable. Surly bikes all come with with very tall steerer columns, so the bars and stem are set up in a high position, creating the kind of upright riding position that allows you to enjoy the scenery as you pass through. As a dedicated long-distance tourer, there are no shortages of well thought out mounting points all over the frame for front and rear racks, mudguards, bottle cages and other accessories.

Some notes on wheel size – The Disc Trucker uses either 26″ or 700c wheels, depending on frame size with some overlap of options in the middle. Frame sizes from 42 to 54cm are designed for 26″ wheels. Riders on 56cm and 58cm frames can choose either 26″ or 700c wheels when buying their bike. For frame sizes over 58cm, the only option is 700c wheels. When it comes to tire volume, 26″ wheel Disc Truckers can accommodate tyres up to 2.1”. Truckers designed around 700c wheels can fit a 42mm tyre with fenders or a 45mm without.
